Center of International Cooperation Service ÖÐÎÄ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ The Center of International Cooperation Service (CICOS) is a public institution, which is directly under the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), operating under the guidance of the MOA Department of International Cooperation. Established in July 1998, CICOS grew out of the MOA Translation & Interpretation Division and now has 7 Divisions with rich experience in translation & interpretation (including simultaneous interpretation for international conferences), international conference organization, multilateral & bilateral project management, external exchange and research work on international and national agricultural development. CICOS has a total staff quota of 51 and currently there are 9 senior-level and 13 intermediate-level professionals; 8 with Master¡¯s degree; 9 working either as senior-level officers or professional officers for FAO, WFP and IFAD; and 5 working as senior program officers for UN representation offices in China. The major function of CICOS is to provide translation & interpretation service; organize and receive study tours; implement international cooperation projects; organize international conferences and training courses; conduct research activities on international and national agriculture, and provide information and advisory service as well as passport and visa service. I. Translation & Interpretation Service Translation & Interpretation service is one of the major business lines of CICOS, providing language service to facilitate MOA foreign affairs and external economic affairs. CICOS provides interpreters for State leaders and visiting high-level delegations; interpreters for MOA delegations going abroad; simultaneous interpretation service for FAO, ILO, WHO and other international organizations; translation service for FAO outsourcing documents and language training for agriculture-related personnel. CICOS has multilingual expertise in Chinese, English, French, Japanese and Spanish. II. Organization of Study Tours The Cooperation Division and Exchange Division make joint efforts with other CICOS Divisions to implement projects of exchange teams, participate in the planning and operation of intergovernmental exchange and cooperation projects with countries from the America, Europe, the Oceania, Asia and Africa. CICOS organizes study tours going abroad for agricultural scientists, technicians, administrators and managers. CICOS also has the function to organize and receive study tours entrusted by other MOA Departments and Bureaus as well as other MOA public institutions. CICOS also provides service for nongovernmental exchange projects of agriculture. III. International Conferences and Training Courses The Cooperation Division and Exchange Division make joint efforts with other CICOS Divisions to organize international conferences and training courses sponsored either by MOA, or jointly by MOA and other Ministries and international organizations, or by government agencies at different levels. IV. International Cooperation Projects The Cooperation Division and Exchange Division make joint efforts with other CICOS Divisions to be responsible for the operation of international cooperation projects, including bilateral and multilateral projects assisted by different countries and international organizations such as FAO, WFP, ASEAN, and by international programs such as ¡°South-South Cooperation¡± as well as other China Programs supported by related countries. V. Research Projects & Information and Advisory Service The Cooperation Division and Exchange Division make joint efforts with other CICOS Divisions to provide information, advisory and research service. CICOS is responsible for the collection of information on agricultural science, technology, business and commerce; thematic research projects; participation in the dynamic research on the development trend and policy of global, regional and national agricultural production and trade. CICOS is responsible for the establishment of MOA international exchange and cooperation information network and provides support to the website of China Agriculture for Trade and Economy (www.cafte.gov.cn). VI. Passport & Visa Service CICOS provides passport & visa service for staff members from MOA and its affiliated institutions. Major Activities I. Translation & Interpretation Service (Pictures) 1. Exchange Groups (Pictures) Each year, CICOS receives dozens of delegations and exchange groups including intergovernmental delegations at or above ministerial level; and bilateral exchange groups on agricultural technology from USA, Australia, Canada, Britain and etc. Also, CICOS receives multilateral groups, such as FAO groups including Mongolian Study Tour on Food Safety, Bangladeshi Study Tour on Sustainable Wheat Production, Vietnam Study Tour on Officially-Aided Agriculture and etc. Additionally, CICOS receives nongovernmental groups from USA, Denmark, Germany, Canada, and Australia.

VI. Passport & Visa Service Each year, CICOS handles thousands of passports, visas and permits
to visit Hong Kong and Macao for staff from MOA and its affiliated
